Step 1: Talk Through Your Ideas
Greg will start by learning what brings you in. You might be choosing an engagement ring, creating a custom piece, redesigning an heirloom, or looking for jewellery to mark a special occasion.
You can share your preferred style, how the piece will be worn, your budget, and any date you have in mind. If you have photos or sketches, bring them along. If you’re still exploring, Greg can help you discover what feels right.
Step 2: Compare Diamonds, Gemstones, and Materials
If your design includes a centre stone, Greg can help you explore available natural and lab-grown diamonds, sapphires, and other gemstones. He’ll explain relevant details such as shape, carat weight, colour, clarity, and how a stone’s proportions affect its appearance.
Many diamonds are accompanied by an independent grading report, such as one from GIA or IGI. When a report is available, Greg can review it with you and explain what the information means. You can also discuss metal choices, including different colours of gold and platinum, depending on the design.
The aim is to help you understand your options and choose what suits your preferences and budget.
Step 3: Explore a Setting or Custom Design
You can look at styles from the Jacob Mercari collection or discuss a custom design. For a custom piece, Greg will talk through details such as the setting, band, metal, and any personal elements you would like to include.
As the design develops, you’ll have the opportunity to review the details and ask questions before production begins. Greg will explain the next steps, provide a quote, and give you an estimated timeline based on your design and stone selection.
For custom engagement rings, the process typically takes about six to eight weeks from the first consultation to delivery. Timing can vary, so let Greg know if you’re working toward a particular date.
Step 4: Review Your Piece and Arrange Delivery
When your piece is complete, you can arrange to pick it up at the Toronto studio or have it shipped securely and insured. Jacob Mercari offers insured shipping across Canada and the USA.
